Estimated wasted ad spend

Per year–
Share of spend–

Your top 3 fixes, by dollar impact

How we estimate it: each check you fail adds a typical leak range (a share of spend) from XENA's experience auditing Amazon ad accounts; "Not sure" counts as half. If your ACoS is above your target, the part of spend above target counts too, and branded spend above 30% adds a small amount. Leaks are combined so they never double count, and capped at 60% of spend. It is a heuristic, not Amazon data, and your real number depends on your account.

    FAQ

    Amazon ad waste, answered.

How does the Amazon ad-waste calculator work?

You enter your monthly ad spend, your ACoS (or ad sales), your target ACoS (or margin) and answer six yes/no checks. Each failed check adds a typical leak range from XENA's experience auditing Amazon ad accounts, the share of spend above your target ACoS is added, and the leaks are combined so they don't double count. The result is a monthly and yearly range, not an exact figure.

Is this based on Amazon data?

No. The leak ranges are XENA's own heuristic from auditing ad accounts, not Amazon statistics or a published study. The fixes link to official Amazon Ads guidance so you can check each recommendation yourself.

What counts as wasted Amazon ad spend?

Spend that doesn't earn its keep: clicks on search terms that never convert, discovery campaigns spending more than they return, bids that push ACoS above your target, budget spent at hours that don't convert, and ads on products that are low on stock or suppressed.

What is a good ACoS on Amazon?

There is no single number. Amazon Ads explains that your ACoS needs to stay below your profit margin to make money, so your break-even ACoS equals your margin. Most brands set a target below that; if you only know your margin, use it as the target in the calculator.

How often should I add negative keywords?

Review your search term report at least monthly. Amazon Ads suggests judging a search term after it has about 20 clicks and letting new negative keywords run for two weeks or more before changing your strategy.

Do I need to give my email to see my results?

No. Your estimate and top three fixes update on the page as you type, and your inputs stay in your own browser. The email form is optional, for a free ad audit from our team.

What happens if my estimated waste is $0?

Pass all six checks with an ACoS at or under your target and you'll find out. There's a small celebration waiting.
