Hire one Amazon manager, or get a whole team?
A US marketplace manager is one person, and the salary is only part of the cost. Here is what a hire really costs, with sources, next to what XENA 360 costs at your sales.
What one marketplace manager costs in the US.
Published 2026 figures, each linked to its source. Salary data for this role is thin and varies widely, so treat every figure as a range, not a quote.
In-house hire vs. XENA 360.
The same job, two ways to get it done. Ad spend is a separate budget either way, so it is left out of both columns.
| Compare | In-house hireOne marketplace manager | XENA 360Team + software |
|---|---|---|
| Base pay | $74K–$160K a year in published US data (PayScale, Glassdoor, Pare) | $2,850/mo + 3% of monthly sales under $40k; $4,850/mo + 2% at $40k and up (pricing) |
| Benefits and payroll taxes | About 21% on top of pay for insurance, retirement and legally required benefits (BLS ECEC) | None on your payroll |
| Recruiting | Median 39 days to fill and $1,300 per hire for nonexecutive roles (SHRM 2026); more if you use a recruiter | A 30-minute meeting, then white-glove onboarding |
| Ramp-up | Time to learn your catalog, accounts, ad history and brand rulesAssumption, not a sourced figure | A team that already runs marketplaces for 120+ brands, with a dedicated account manager from day one |
| Tools | Bought separately; for example Helium 10 is $129–$359/mo on monthly billing | The XENA 360 dashboard and SearchPanel AI visibility are included |
| Coverage | One person, one skill set, one set of working hours | A team across Amazon, Walmart, Target, Shopify and more: listings and content, ads, creative direction, operations and compliance |
| Vacation and sick days | Paid leave is about 10% of employer compensation cost for management roles (BLS); when they are out, the work waits | 24x7 store management; the team covers when someone is out |
| If they leave | Median private-sector tenure is 3.9 years (BLS); then you recruit and ramp up again | Your account stays with the team |
The 21% figure is our math on BLS data: insurance, retirement and legally required benefits divided by wages, paid leave and supplemental pay for private-industry management, business and financial occupations, June 2026. A salary already includes paid leave and bonuses, so they are not counted twice.

Estimates, not quotes. The XENA 360 fee includes a percentage of monthly sales, so it grows as your sales grow; at high sales a single hire can cost less. Tools you would keep either way are not added to the XENA 360 side. Ramp-up time and lost sales during vacancies are not counted. See XENA 360 pricing.
One person vs. a team.
A strong marketplace manager can do a lot. Few can do all of it, on every channel, every week of the year.
In-house hire
- One person's skills: maybe ads, maybe listings, rarely both at depth
- Usually one marketplace done well; Walmart, Target and Shopify compete for the same hours
- Creative, compliance and inventory planning often fall back on you
- Out sick, on vacation or gone: the work stops until they are back or replaced
- Tools and reporting are bought and built separately
XENA 360
- A dedicated account manager, backed by our team
- Amazon, Walmart, Target, Shopify and more, run day to day
- Listings and content, A+ visuals, ads across Amazon PPC, Google and Meta, creative direction
- Inventory, fulfillment and compliance management, with alerts
- The XENA 360 dashboard, SearchPanel AI visibility, and bi-weekly growth reports

Hiring vs. XENA 360, answered.
Is it better to hire an Amazon manager in-house or use an agency?
It depends on what you need covered. An in-house hire is one dedicated person inside your company, and you pay salary, benefits, payroll taxes, recruiting and tools. XENA 360 is a team plus software: a dedicated account manager, with our team covering marketplace management, listings and content, advertising, operations and reporting across Amazon, Walmart, Target, Shopify and more. Its fee is a flat monthly base plus a share of monthly sales, so it grows as you grow. Use the calculator on this page with your own numbers.
How much does an Amazon marketplace manager make in the US?
Published figures vary a lot. Glassdoor shows a median total pay of $129K for Amazon Marketplace Managers (based on 11 salaries), and Pare found a median posted range of $115,000 to $160,000 across 162 job descriptions. PayScale shows an average base of $74,073, based on only 6 profiles.
What does a marketplace manager cost beyond salary?
Employer-paid insurance, retirement and payroll taxes. BLS data for management, business and financial roles (June 2026) works out to about 21% on top of pay. Add recruiting (SHRM's 2026 median cost per hire is $1,300 for nonexecutive roles, and the median time to fill is 39 days) and seller tools such as Helium 10 ($129 to $359 a month on monthly billing).
Can XENA 360 support an existing in-house hire?
Yes. On your XENA 360 meeting we map who handles what across your marketplaces, so your in-house manager can keep ownership of the brand while our team and the XENA 360 dashboard cover the day-to-day work, ads, listings, operations and reporting around them.
When does hiring cost less than XENA 360?
At high sales. The XENA 360 fee includes a percentage of monthly sales, so it grows with you. With this page's default hire (a $115,000 salary, 21% overhead, one $359/mo tool and $1,300 recruiting), one hire costs less on paper above roughly $361,000 a month in sales. Even then, it is still one person rather than a team.
